I entirely agree with John's comments.

I am a CLDP since 2003 and hve been in business, in the same location, for the past 33 years. I have faced my share of unethical clients that I have been forced to decline services for them. Its not always the client the innocent party, clients look for unethical persons to assist them with their questionable work.

That is not a totally accurate representation regarding certified legal document preparers. While there are LDP's out there who are unscrupulous or who do bad work, the same can be said for attorneys. Both LDP's and attorneys fulfill a valuable need, and neither profession should be demonized because of their bad apples.

Some other facts that may interest your readers:

-LDP's are certified through the court and are subject to a comprehensive code of ethics
-LDP's are required to have previous supervised legal experience before being certified
-LDP's are required to attend continuing legal education on a yearly basis
-LDP's can offer general legal information, but cannot offer legal advice
-LDP's can help arrange for filing and service of legal documents

A good LDP (of which there are very many) will not:

-Take your money and run
-Offer you bad advice, as they will not offer any legal advice at all
-Misrepresent themselves or their abilities

If someone does run into an LDP who is not acting ethically, they can easily file a complaint with the Arizona court's Legal Document Preparer Board.

We are a legal document preparation firm that has been in business for about five years. We have never received a complaint, have a good relationship with our local courts and legal community, and enjoy an excellent reputation. Our company fulfills a legitimate need helping mostly low income clients who feel that they cannot afford an attorney, and who otherwise do not qualify for legal aid.
