Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs this service?

Over the 15 years that we have been representing nonprofits, we have been hired to untangle numerous legal problems created by organizations copying documents from the Internet, from other organizations, or turning to unlicensed document preparers. In many cases, the documents were not tailored to their specific circumstances, were not compliant with state law, and ended up causing more problems than they solved. We recognized the need for a new more affordable alternative for nonprofits with limited budgets to receive quality legal services.

How does it work?

We use technology to cut out many of the steps involved in a traditional full-service representation to make the process more efficient. Not all matters will be appropriate for online legal services. We will advise you if your matter is not a fit for our online legal service.

    Happy New Year.
I’m hoping you can help with a general question.
I am in the process of dissolving a non-profit Organization (501C3) in the Chicago area.
We have one asset on the books — a custom built information booth I built myself 4 years ago. We’ve listed it for $2,700 (no depreciation) all this time— reflecting the material costs.
In the liquidation process we’d like to sell it. Can our Board decide on an arbitrary price—-even if it was $20 just to get rid of it it? I have a buyer.
I don’t know if it has a fair market value since it was custom built. Nor am I sure if its considered a charitable asset as it was not donated to the company. I did use donated non-profit company money for materials when I constructed it.
    Hope you can help.
    Kindly,
    -Fran Volz
